Group facilitator training (currently in Finnish only) is intended for people interested in volunteering, interculturalism and learning new skills.
Mother & Baby group facilitator training is intended for mothers of an intercultural baby (under one year old) or women who are expecting.
Web facilitator training is intended for
people interested in facilitating and moderating internet-based group
activities.
About volunteer training courses
Duo offers training for volunteer group facilitators. Duo's group facilitators take part in organising different kinds of discussion groups for people in intercultural relationships. There have been discussion groups for women and men, peer groups for mothers and babies as well as photo workshops for fathers and children.
The group facilitator training gives basic skills and readiness to facilitate groups, increases self-knowledge and interaction and conflict resolution skills. No previous experience of facilitating a group is needed to become a group facilitator: an open mind, interest in intercultural issues, willingness to give up time to volunteering and a positive approach is all that is required.
The group facilitator trainings have been tremendously popular: nearly fifty people have participated in the general facilitator training since 2008 and twenty-seven women have participated in the Mother & Baby group facilitator training since 2010.
Duo develops internet-based activities together with Väestöliitto and several other partner organisations. The first Web facilitator training for volunteers started in November 2011.

About becoming a Mother & Baby group facilitator
Interested in new experiences and volunteer work?
Interested in learning new skills and making new friends?
Interested in facilitating a Mother & Baby group?
Mother & Baby discussion groups are facilitated in pairs and we can help you to find a pair if you do not have a friend to start your own Mother & Baby group with. You do not have to be an experienced facilitator either: an open mind and positive approach is all you need. We will offer training, material and support for our volunteers and help in finding a suitable place for the meetings.
As a Mother & Baby facilitator you and your pair are expected to:
- Participate in the three hour facilitator training
- Help in planning, organising and advertising the group
- Prepare for and facilitate seven two hour meetings
- Work together and share the responsibilities with your pair
As a Mother & Baby facilitator you will get:
- New skills, experiences and friends
- Advice, help and support in organising the group from the staff of Duo Project
- Support material and information about intercultural parenthood and group facilitator skills
- A diploma after participating in facilitator training and facilitating a group
