Overhand Knot in a Relationship Counselling

Research shows that on average, couples wait six years from the first signs of problems before they seek help. This means the average couple lives with unhappiness for far too long. Seeking help early is not a sign of failure, but a sign of commitment.

Overhand Knot in a Relationship counselling is meant for an intercultural couple going through a crisis in their relationship. The aim of the counselling is to increase understanding between partners and to help them to see each other’s point of view. Furthermore, the couple will also learn new ways of communicating and resolving conflicts.

Overhand Knot in a Relationship counselling is not suitable for couples who have already decided to break up or to get a divorce (even if it is a one-sided decision). Likewise, the counselling is not suitable for couples with issues with substance dependence and/or domestic violence.

Note: This is not a free service, but subject to a charge. There is no child care available. Office hour meetings are the easiest to arrange, but times outside the office hours can sometimes also be arranged.

Skype Counselling for Couples and Individuals

Relationship counselling over the internet is now available. Skype Counselling is suitable for many and allows people living outside the Helsinki Metropolitan area to attend counselling in English or in Finnish.

Skype Counselling is suitable for short-term counselling as well.

Skype Counselling types on offer are:

individual sessions (45-60 minutes) and
couple sessions (60-90 minutes).

Will & Skill Relationship Coaching Programme on the internet

Participating in a Will & Skill Relationship Coaching Programme will give you new ideas and research-based skills that can strengthen your relationship. You will learn ways to communicate better and how to resolve conflict in a constructive way as well as how to foster respect, affection and closeness in your relationship.

The Will & Skill Relationship Coaching Programme is based on a model developed by the Couple Relationship Center of the Family Federation of Finland (Väestöliitto) and consists of short introductory lectures in English as well as private discussions and exercises with your partner.

The programme is aimed at both unmarried and married couples wanting to develop their relationship skills. The programme includes tools for preventing and solving conflict, but the programme is not therapeutic or reparative. Therefore, the programme is not suitable for couples in acute crisis and/or contemplating divorce.
