Family training

When parents from different cultural backgrounds bring up a child together, two parenting styles as well as two cultures will combine. Monocultural couples can also clash on issues such as discipline techniques, but there are extra parenting challenges for intercultural couples. Social norms around the world vary greatly with regard to, for example, showing affection, catering to children's needs, involvement of family, appropriate gender play and roles and behavioral and scholastic expectations.
Duo's family training groups are aimed at expecting intercultural couples. The two-session groups are confidential and free of charge. Participating in a family training group can help you and your partner to better understand how to create a strong intercultural family identity and how to support your child's multilinguality and identity. You will also meet other couples and have an opportunity to exchange opinions and experiences as well as get new insights and ideas for your everyday life.
This year's last family training will start in October. For more information and to register contact us by email duo(at)familiaclub.fi
Note: Duo's family training complements the family training provided by maternity guidance centers (neuvola) but does not replace it. Duo's training is not childbirth training.
